To Expect From A Platform Station
What are platform stations?
Platform stations are just that a platform and a sign. These stations are often in rural areas or on a commuter railroad route. These stations may have a shelter available and a bench, but not all do. Plan for these limited services, especially if the weather is dreadful. Check the status of your train before you leave for the station; more on tracking trains below..
When the train arrives at the platform station
Pretty straightforward here, wait for the train to stop completely, and listen for instructions from conductors or Amtrakstaff for directions, You will direct you to the right car, and on some routes, they may assign you a seat.
Parking At Platform Stations
Parking varies depending on the municipality, and calling them or check out their website about long-term parking could be a good idea before your departure date. No one needs to ticket or return from a trip to find that their vehicle towed.
It is easier to figure out parking ahead of time than dealing with it the day of the journey,
Preparation The Platform Station
If you are not familiar with the area, a “dry run” may eliminate stress the day you leave. There was a particular traveler that did not do that for his first Amtrak trip because he thought he knew the station location. He was not aware that Sturtevant, WI, build a new station. He did catch his train on time but did not a great start on his trip. Also, by doing a dry run, you could find a place to hang out if the train is running late or if the weather is not marvelous.
Have Your Tickets Ready
It is best to buy your tickets ready before you leave either on the website or app or if you need help call Amtrak. Amtrak conductors can scan tickets off your electronic device, or a paper ticket you print at home.
You can buy some tickets on the train, but those tickets are cash only and could have additional fees.
