The Amtrak Valley Flyer is a convenient daily train service connecting New Haven, CT, to Greenfield, MA, with a stop in Springfield, MA, along its 102-mile route. Whether commuting or planning an Amtrak trip, the Valley Flyer offers a comfortable, scenic journey through charming New England towns.
In this article, you’ll find the train’s timetable, learn about the accommodations on board, and discover the unique highlights of this delightful route. While there isn’t a café car on the Valley Flyer, passengers can enjoy free Wi-Fi and power outlets at their seats, ensuring a pleasant and productive trip.
Amtrak Valley Flyer Accommodations
The Vallet Flyer offers coach seating with no middle row.
For your convenience, each window features a fold-down tray, individual reading lights, and a 120V grounded (three-prong) outlet beneath.
Additionally, luggage can be stored in the overhead bin and the rear rack. There are two restrooms in each passenger car.
This train does not offer business class.
Food
Because it is considered a short-run train, the Amtrak Valley Flyer does not offer food service. You can bring food and drink from abroad, but you cannot consume alcohol on the train.
Pets & Service Animals
Amtrak allows dogs and cats:
- Up to 20 pounds
- The combined weight of the pet and carrier.
- Pets must be on your reservation
- You must complete the necessary paperwork before boarding the train.
- Amtrak will send you the form you need to print and complete after you finish your reservation, or you can find it in the My Trip section.

Bikes

Luggage
The Valley Flyer does not offer checked baggage.
Each passenger may carry on:
- One personal item, up to 25 pounds (12 kg), and 14 x 11 x 7 inches
- Two carry-on pieces of luggage, 50 lbs. (23 kg) and 28 x 22 x 14 inches each

Amtrak Hartford Line and Valley Flyer Schedule Changes
This is effective from Monday to Friday, starting April 21 and lasting until October 30, 2026.
To facilitate infrastructure work, Amtrak’s Hartford Line and Valley Flyer services will be modified as detailed below. The scheduled times listed on Amtrak.com have been updated to reflect these changes.
Northbound
- Train 490, which normally operates between New Haven and Springfield, will be canceled.
- Bus 3490 will provide alternate transportation between New Haven and Springfield, making all local stops.
- Bus 3590 will provide alternate transportation between New Haven and Springfield, making stops only at State Street, Hartford, and Springfield.
- Train 470, which normally operates between New Haven and Springfield, will terminate at Hartford.
- Bus 3470 will provide alternate transportation between Hartford and Springfield.
Southbound
- Trains 471 and 473, which normally operate between Springfield and New Haven, will originate at Hartford.
- Buses 3471 and 3473 will provide alternate transportation between Springfield and Hartford.
- Bus 3125 will provide alternate transportation between Springfield and New Haven if Train 425 is delayed and misses the connection to Train 125 at Springfield.
Trains will run as scheduled on May 25, July 3, and September 7.
