Luggage, Bikes, and Pets

Sometimes, we need to bring a few things; this section will help you with what you need to bring on the train.

Luggage

Like most Amtrak regional trains, this train does not offer checked bag service.

Each passenger may carry on:

  • One personal item, up to 25 pounds (12 kg), and 14 x 11 x 7 inches
  • Two carry-on pieces of luggage, 50 lbs. (23 kg) and 28 x 22 x 14 inches each

If you transfer to the Pacific Surfliner at some point along your journey, the baggage size limit for that train is 28 x 22 x 11 inches per piece.

Charges apply for additional and oversized luggage; check out Amtrak’s carry-on bag policy for more information.

Bikes

You can bring your bike aboard the Empire Service; here is Amtrak’s bike policy.

Pets

Small pets are allowed on board, but they must be included in your reservation. Please review Amtrak’s pet policy for regulations.

Service animals are permitted, but untrained animals, including pets, comfort or emotional support animals, and animals in training, are not allowed. Please visit Amtrak’s service animal page for more information and detailed instructions on traveling with your service animal.
